Vegan Hot Wings with Match Chicken

So, for the past few days we’ve been doing delicious vegan versions of classic hot wings and we ain’t stopping!  Today, we’re going to continue this trend with these hot wings and finish up tomorrow with Asian Zing wings.  Then, I’m thinking some homemade vegan ice cream and who knows what the unResolution Month grand finale will look like.  All I can say is that it will be delicious and anything but healthy.  Promise!

Now, on to the hot wings.  This is another recipe that was inspired by Buffalo Wild Wings and thanks to a cool blog, I got the recipe.  Of course, I swapped out the real meat for  Match chicken (since they sent me some of their awesome vegan faux chicken) but I bet you won’t care about the difference!

Vegan Hot Wing Recipe

So, you may be asking yourself, we’ve already done vegan buffalo wings, right?  So what’s a hot wing?  Well, in this case the “hot” comes from about 6 habaneros and 5 jalapenos!  Ouch!  Why so hot?  Well, these are the blazing style wings from BW-3!  The hottest of the hot!  The ones they make challenges out of!

(Before we get to the actual recipe, the original came from Epic Portions, which is a great little blog.  Check it out some time.)

You will need:

For the sauce

  • 6 fresh habanero peppers (with seeds)
  • 5 lemon drop peppers (or other small hot pepper)
  • 8 jalapenos (with seeds)
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
  • fresh ground black pepper
  • salt

For the “wings”

  • 1 pound Match meat
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper

Mix all the ingredients for the salt and pepper together and bring to a boil in a sauce pan.  Set aside.

Thaw the Match chicken and form into 1 inch squares.  Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.

Fry in 350 degree oil or over medium-high heat.

Put the sauce in a plastic container with a lid, put in some wings, shake very well.

Serve with some cashew cream to cool down the fires and enjoy!
