Bacon French Onion Dip

It’s time to watch the final game of the football season and to do that, you’re going to need snacks. May I present:

Bacon French Onion Dip

I’m a huge fan of dip. I mean, I like chips a bunch, too, but for me one of the ultimate snacks is some nice sturdy chips and a bunch of different things to dip them into. A lot of times, that means something like Trader Joe’s caramelized onion dip (click for my copycat version!) but it can also mean classics like French onion dip. I grew up eating Frito’s chips and store-bought French onion dip. I loved it, but these days, I think I can make it better. French onion dip that is. Who can make better Frito’s?

You will need:

  • 6 strips bacon, crisped with grease reserved
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper
  • 3 French onion soup packets
  • 1 package cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  1. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat
  2. Add the onions and bacon grease with a fair amount of salt and pepper
  3. Cook the onions for 10 minutes and then set the heat to low and cover. Cook an additional 20 minutes.
  4. Add the soup mix and cook another minute before letting the onions cool
  5. Once cool, mix in the rest of the ingredients
  6. Chop the bacon and top the dip
  7. Let the mixture chill for an hour and serve with crusty bread of potato chips

Enjoy!
