Good Food! unResolution Month Post #19: BBQ Burger

BBQ Burgers

When you want a different flavor for your everyday burger, but don’t have a lot of time, make a

BBQ Burger

As far as Burger Week on unResolution Month goes, this recipe is going to be the most simple by leaps and bounds since it just doesn’t have that many toppings.

I got the idea when I was making Mole Burgers with Big Acres® Milagro Mole sauce.  I found that just brushing on a little bit of a sweet, thick sauce over the burgers when I cooked them made a big difference in how juicy and flavorful they were.  So, if it works with mole, it should work with other sauces, too.

Like maybe BBQ sauce.  But of course, this is unResolution Month so we can’t just use simple BBQ sauce.  We have to kick it up a notch, add some pizzazz, maybe a little spice and make it extra good.

So, the key to this recipe is to make the sauce first.  Then you’ll have it to leisurely spread while you follow the How to Make the Perfect Hamburger Recipe which I so thoughtfully posted on the first day of unResolution Month.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • (optional) 1 tablespoon pineapple juice
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 2 pounds of hamburger
  • 4 buns
  • 1 onion, diced
  • Your favorite burger condiments

First, make the BBQ sauce by mixing your favorite barbecue sauce with the sriracha, honey, pineapple juice, black pepper, and cumin.  Stir well.  Divide into two bowls, one for brushing on the burger, the other for dipping.  (Why separate?  Because the bowl you use to brush the burgers with will likely come in contact with raw meat and that’s not good eats.)

Next, make the burgers according to the recipe.  Brush the sauce on the top of burger while the first side is cooking and brush the top again after you flip it.  If you don’t plan on adding cheese to any burger, go ahead and flip it a second time and let the BBQ sauce cook for thirty seconds.

Construct the burgers with the buns, the diced onions, the burger, and your favorite condiments.  Serve with a side of sauce.  Eat up and enjoy!
